How To Get Rid Of Wasps

Wasps are a common pest during the summertime, and will grow aggressive if they feel threatened or if their nest is under attack.

Not the ideal bedfellows during your lazy days in the garden, they’ll grow increasingly agitated after their nest has broken down in the late summer, causing them to seek alternative food sources and feed on fermented fruit, which makes them drunk and disoriented.

So if you want to get rid of wasps in your garden, what should you do?

  • Stay protected – to avoid wasp stings, cover all parts of your body with protective clothing.
  • Come out at night – wasps are less active in the night time. Wait until the sun goes down before approaching a nest to destroy it.
  • Douse the nest in an approved wasp repellent spray – you could also use insecticidal dust, smoke or water. Be sure to wear a protective mask when spraying pesticides.
  • Grow plants which may repel wasps – plants like spearmint, thyme citronella, eucalyptus and wormwood are viewed by some as wasp repellents, and may help stop them returning in the future.
  • Call the professionals – to ensure wasp nests are destroyed completely, drop us a line.

In the event that your wasp problem is more widespread and a nest can’t be located, we can reduce the wasp population by using professional traps.

We’ll use lures to attract the wasp on its way to and from the hidden feeding site. Wasp traps work very well in private gardens, picnic areas and other external eating areas.
