Have pests invaded your empty premises during lockdown?

When the UK was put on lockdown in March, many businesses were forced to close their doors with immediate effect.

As well as being financially devastating, not being able to gain access to their premises had many other negative consequences for businesses. One being the fact that with no humans around to intervene, pests could roam around to their heart’s content.

What would have exacerbated this problem was the fact that companies didn’t have time to prepare for lockdown. This meant that pest-proofing the building and removing food debris wasn’t an option.

If pests have made themselves at home in your building, warehouse, factory, office or any other business premises during lockdown, below we explain what to do about it.

Do a thorough clean

Pests love mess. It provides them with food, nesting materials, warmth and somewhere to hide. Before employees return or you open to customers, it’s a very good idea to conduct a thorough clean. As well as removing any pest temptations, it’s a great way to spot the signs of infestation such as droppings or damage to materials.

Seal potential entry points

When you enter the building, there’s a strong possibility you’ll scare pests such as rodents away. With no sign of them while you’re there, you may think your premises is safe, only for them to return when the coast is clear.

Seal any potential entry points so they can’t escape and this will help you to determine the extent of the problem. Once any issues have been dealt with, a secure building will also help to prevent future outbreaks.

Call a pest controller

We know we’re biased but the best thing to do when returning to your premises is to call pest control. They will be able to carry out a thorough inspection to determine whether or not your building has been affected during lockdown. They will also be able to install preventative measures which will keep you safe should another local or national lockdown occur.

We have a number of services designed to help businesses with all their pest control needs.

Pest+

If you’re operating from a commercial premises or a low dependency commercial area, our Pest+ plan is the ideal solution.

We offer a professional pest prevention and control service and our fully qualified technicians are always on hand to ensure your property is protected.

All our plans are tailored to your individual premises and even at this point, you’re under no obligation to use Prokill to eliminate your infestation.

Each of our visits are followed up with a report detailing the services that were undertaken. We only ever install safe and tamper-resistant baiting and we provide helpful ongoing recommendations for housekeeping and preventing future outbreaks.
