It’s not often we can say this, but the UK is currently enjoying a very pleasant summer. With temperatures reaching record levels and plenty of sunny days, it means we’ve been able to make the most of outdoor living. While lunchtime strolls and dinners in the garden have been thoroughly enjoyable, the downside is the pests which come along to gatecrash the fun.
Although summer pests are very common, they’re not nice to deal with – especially when it comes to bees. These insects play a crucial role in the survival of our environment, but they’re feared by many because of the threat of being stung. With up to 400 bees in a nest, it’s the last thing anyone wants to see close to their home.
If you see or suspect that you may have a nest, please contact a professional pest controller as soon as possible. This is exactly what one of our recent customers did and it meant that we could deal with the situation quickly, safely and successfully.
As you can see in the image, our customer had a large bee’s nest under their fascia boards. If you look closely you can even see lots of intricate honeycombs!
Our team removed the bees, safely relocated them and all the honey residue was removed. The bees that weren’t in the nest at the time hung around for a few days (which is perfectly normal) and then moved on.
Signs of a bee infestation
- The odd bee here or there is nothing to be worried about but if you’re seeing more than usual, it could be because there’s a nest nearby
- You can actually see a nest. Bumblebees often nest in the ground but can also be found around patio areas, decks, in attics, under roof beams or in quiet, undisturbed areas. As you can see from our customer, the bees decided to make themselves at home in the fascia boards
- You can hear a loud buzzing noise
Removing a bee’s nest
We understand that seeing a lone bee is unnerving enough, let alone a swarm of them. Please do not try and kill them. They play a crucial role in our ecosystem and their numbers are declining at a worrying rate. What’s more, bees will become aggressive when threatened. One sting may be uncomfortable but multiple stings can be dangerous – especially if you or someone else has an allergy.
Please don’t try to remove a nest yourself. Call a professional pest controller such as Prokill and we will get to you as soon as possible – online contact form.
