If there’s one thing guaranteed to put a downer on summer, it’s the presence of wasps. Although they’re unlikely to sting you unless they feel threatened, having them constantly buzzing around you when you’re trying to relax in the garden is incredibly unnerving.

If you think that you may have a wasp nest in your home or at a business premises, below we have identified some of the most common places you’re likely to find these insects hiding.  How to get rid of wasps with Prokill Pest Control.

Inside Buildings

If you suspect that you may have a nest in the building, chances are that they have been with you for some time now. Wasps tend to make their way in through cracks and openings in the Autumn and then spend the winter hibernating in the warmth of your home or office.

More often than not, you will find them in attics, soffits, chimneys, wall voids, around the eaves and ledges of a house and in window and door casings. Like most pests, they tend to set up home somewhere dark and quiet where they won’t be disturbed which is why a lot of people don’t even realise they have an infestation until the weather starts getting warmer.

It’s at this time of year that you may start to notice them emerge from beneath baseboards, behind window and door frames, from within sash-cord openings and around light fixtures and ventilators.

Although it’s unusual, there have been cases of wasps building their nests in corners of quiet rooms or in wardrobes.

Outside properties

If you’ve noticed a high number of wasps recently but they’re not in your property, there’s more than likely a nest in the nearby area. Common outdoor areas for wasps to build their nests include:

  •      In trees
  •      On the edges of roofs
  •      Inside garages
  •      Inside sheds
  •      In bird boxes

If you think that you may have a wasp nest somewhere around the property, these are the most common signs to look out for:

  •      You see large numbers of wasps swarming the area
  •      You notice they always seem to come and go from a single location
  •      Even if you can’t see any wasps, you may be able to hear buzzing
  •      You find something that resembles a nest – they’re made from chewed wood pulp and saliva and have distinctive papery walls
  •      Some species of wasps build their nests by chewing wood so you may begin to notice holes or tunnels appearing in wooden surfaces on the exterior of your home

If you think that you may have a wasp infestation in your home or at a business premises, please don’t attempt to deal with the problem yourself. A professional will be able to eradicate the problem and ensure safe wasp nest removal takes place without any risk to you or others.

For your free pest audit, give Prokill a call today. We can also devise a comprehensive control plan specific to your problem and environment to prevent future wasp infestations from occurring.
