It\u2019s not just the big things like driving electric cars and installing solar panels that can help. Even little changes such as choosing environmentally friendly pest control methods can really add up and make a difference.<\/p>\n

Below we share some of our top environmentally friendly bird control and prevention methods.<\/p>\n

Remove any food sources<\/strong><\/p>\n

A simple yet highly effective way to encourage birds to move on as well as prevent future infestations, is to remove any food sources. This includes bird feeders, pet food, ensuring compost and rubbish bins are completely secured and covered and clearing up any food debris from outside eating areas.<\/p>\n

Remove access to nesting sites<\/strong><\/p>\n

If pest birds can\u2019t get to their nesting area, they\u2019ll soon find somewhere else to go. You can install spikes and barriers over window ledges or netting and sloped sheathing around the property.<\/p>\n

As well as encouraging birds to move on, it will also prevent future infestations because they won\u2019t be able to gain access to your property.<\/p>\n

Use a decoy<\/strong><\/p>\n

Decoys such as kite-shaped hawks, wooden owls and even owl faces on masks or balloons, are all great ways of scaring pest birds away.<\/p>\n

Natural bird repellents<\/strong><\/p>\n

There are a number of organic, homemade remedies which can be very effective when it comes to repelling birds.<\/p>\n

You can try placing balls or containers of strong spices around your patio, exterior windowsills or wherever birds tend to gather around your property. The best spices to use are chili powder, cayenne pepper, black pepper or cinnamon.<\/p>\n

Hawking<\/strong><\/p>\n

Hawking is an effective way to remove bird infestations and has no impact on the environment whatsoever. The added benefit is that it\u2019s also a very humane way to deal with pest birds.<\/p>\n

Specially trained hawks are introduced to the infested environment. Because these creatures are birds of prey, other birds such as gulls and pigeons are naturally encouraged to move elsewhere.<\/p>\n

Call a professional pest controller<\/strong><\/p>\n

Please bear in mind that all wild bird species are protected by law in the UK and you shouldn\u2019t try to kill or remove them from a site yourself.<\/p>\n

What\u2019s more, certain species such as seagulls, are very intelligent and can therefore be very difficult to remove.<\/p>\n
